Where We Fit
Douglas C.A.R.E.S. acts as the liaison between various agencies that become involved when a case of child abuse is suspected or reported. This may include law enforcement, the Child Welfare Program and District Attorney’s office. Our goals are to make sure reports are completed, the needs of the family are met, and the best interests of the child(ren) are kept in the forefront of everyone’s mind throughout the process.
C.A.R.E.S. offers onsite mental health assessments and therapy by experienced mental health professionals trained in treating child abuse survivors and their families.
All services offered at C.A.R.E.S. are at no cost to families. Children are our first and primary priority.
In the early 1990s, the State of Oregon issued mandates requiring each county to develop specialized teams of community partners to track issues of suspected child abuse. According to state statutes, each alleged victim of child abuse has a legal right to a medical exam. Douglas C.A.R.E.S. was created to provide these services to children and families in a caring, coordinated environment. We are staffed by professionals and our work is supported by community volunteers and donors. (See how you can become involved here.)
“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them.”
